Our focus will be on providing basic technique training, incorporating styles of Studio Sublime, the troupe I have been with for the past 6 years (Greek, Egyptian and contemporary styles; zills and veils) and Get Bent Studio with whom I have been studying the past two summers, and under whom I have completed teacher training certification (Bollywood, Tribal, Egyptian), tying it all together with my own approach to dance as a means of connecting to our inner Goddess, experiencing the sacred, healing and empowering ourselves and one another, and embracing all ages, sizes, and cultural backgrounds.
Class progression will be based on the philosophy that basic technique and drilling is an essential aspect of dance which informs free dance and choreography, and is beneficial to all levels of dancers, developmentally or as maintenance.
While classes will focus on dance technique, complimentary choreography classes or workshops may also be offered pending interest.
No previous dance is required. If you have some belly dance and are looking to refresh, practice and enjoy please join us!
*For those who took my previous beginner class this level is appropriate for you, incorporating new moves and combinations and reintroducing the basics. Dress in 'workout wear' - yoga pants, track gear, whatever you're comfortable in. Hip scarves and zills are provided, or you may bring your own if you prefer. I also have some available for purchase.
Fees and Schedule: $200.00 per seat (includes practice CD and voluntary participation in a 'Celebration of Dance' event). Mother’s may bring their teenage daughters for half price.
